My vision for this space was to bring together the elements of industrial modern design with a contrasting combination of dark and light tones. The goal was to achieve a sleek and contemporary look, with a focus on clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic.
Our goal
Enhancing Openness & Visual Appeal
One of the main objectives for this space was to create a sense of openness. Despite being a 1,700 sqft home, I aimed to make it feel more spacious. To achieve this, I reconfigured the layout to create an open concept design. By removing the bar top area and ensuring the island had a seamless and uninterrupted dimension, the space instantly felt more expansive. Additionally, the contrast between the light and dark elements was strategically employed to draw attention to the focal points within the room, further enhancing the overall visual appeal.
What we did to get there:
One of the design obstacles we encountered was that the wood cabinetry turned out to be lighter in color than we had anticipated. We initially wanted a nearly black shade, but the cabinets ended up having more of a cherry brown hue. Instead of deviating from our original plan and giving the island a different color, we made the decision to keep the island and all the cabinetry in the kitchen the same color. This was done to avoid too many visual disruptions within the space.
By maintaining a cohesive color scheme throughout, we were able to create a more unified and visually pleasing appearance, minimizing distractions to the eye. This allowed for more of an open effect.
